A Review On The Rules Of Poker

Poker is in essence a game of both chance and skill. It is a family of card games sharing betting rules and occasionally hand rankings. These games differ on the arrangement of the cards, formation of the hand, that is the lower or the higher hand wins the pot in an encounter. In some particular games, the pot is divided amongst the low and high hand. The rules of poker may also differ in the limits on bet sizes or the number of betting rounds of allowed.

Nevertheless, the concept of betting in poker card games and its variants requires skill and psychology. The list of these rules are subdivided into the following sub headings. The Very Basics of this game, How the Hands are ranked, Betting and Descriptions of Hand Ranks. These are explained bellow.

This game is normally played from a pack of fifty two cards. Some games use mathematical product packs or include cards called jokers. The cards are ranked from the lowest as follows. 2,3, 4,5, 6,7, 8,9, 10, jack, queen and king. Ace is ranked as the lowest or the highest depending on the game but is usually highest. These cards are in four suits namely; spades, diamonds hearts, and clubs; no suit is higher than the others. All hands comprise of five cards, and the highest hand wins the game.

The ranking of the cards are explained as follows: A five of a kind is the highest potential hand. If more than one hand has this particular ranking, the holder of the higher card wins. Five Aces wins five kings, and so on.

A straight flush is the dearest natural hand. It is a straight five cards in order, for example, 5-6-7-8-9 of the same suit. You can have an ace either low (5-4-3-2-1) or high (A-K-Q-J-T) called regular straight. However, a straight may indeed not garment. Therefore, K-A-2-3-4 is not a straight.

Four of a kind is four cards of the same rank. If there are more hands that qualify, the higher-rank four of a kind would of course win. If, in some outlandish game with several wild cards, there are two four of kinds with similar rank, the one with the highest card beyond the four of the kind wins.

A full house has three of a kind plus a pair, for example, K-K-K-5-5. Any Tie is broken first by the three of a kind, followed by a pair. Therefore, K-K-K-2-2 defeats Q-Q-Q-A-A, which subsequently beats Q-Q-Q-J-J.

This is any hand that does not qualify as the above hands. If no player has a better or pair, in that situation then the highest card would indeed win. If different players have the highest card, the second highest card is considered. High card can also be used in breaking ties when the high hands have the same hand.
